Drug Abuse at Pasadena City College
03.30.07 (5:39 pm)   [edit]
Survey Reveals Extent of Drug Abuse at Pasadena City College A new survey, conducted on college students this week by volunteers at Pasadena City College, revealed that 79.2% have seen people around them taking street drugs and 50% have themselves tried some kind of street drug at least once.

"We wanted to find out what people actually think about drugs and what the real situation is in Pasadena, so we can do something to turn the tide," said Marc.

Scientology Disaster Relief in Jakarta, Indonesia
03.08.07 (11:32 am)   [edit]

With more than 70 percent of Jakarta and its surrounding areas affected by the flooding earlier this month, which forced over 300,000 people from their homes and claimed the lives of at least 80, a Scientology Disaster Relief Team of the Churches of Scientology of Australia and locally trained volunteers formed up and deployed to the area three weeks ago to help residents recover.

It was one thing to read about devastation in the news, but the volunteers were hardly prepared for what they saw when they arrived. There were stretches of the city where water levels had risen as high as 4 meters (over 12 feet), bridges had simply been washed away by the torrents, and many thousands were living without electricity, with no way to cook food or boil water to make it safe to drink.

Meeting with the provincial disaster management and displaced persons organizations, they got a list of the seven worst-hit areas and started their work. (more > )

Adolescent Suicide Rate, Not Due To Black Box Warnings
03.05.07 (11:18 pm)   [edit]

Prompted by psychiatrists with their own vested interests in pharmaceutical sales, the media has spun the blame for the rise in the suicide rate for children on the “black box” warning labels placed on antidepressants.

This comes from a study that was conducted by the Center for Disease Control (CDC)—one of the components of the Department of Health and Human Services, which prevents and controls infectious and chronic diseases.

When citing statistics for the causes of death for children, the study, “Annual Summary of Vital Statistics: 2005,” published in the February issue of Pediatrics, the official journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics, claimed that, “A significant increase was registered only for suicide (18.2%).” The population of people the study was referring to are children aged 1-19 for the years 2003-2004. The study was on vital statistics, such as birth rates and infant mortality. It was not a psychiatric study and the researchers and scientists do not have a connection with mental health issues. I went to the beach the other day to help my friends do Dianetics stress testing
03.03.07 (2:52 pm)   [edit]
I don't know if you've ever seen this done but if you ever get a chance you should make sure you check it out. If you don't happen to see anyone set up on the street in your neighborhood you can always stop in to a Scientology Mission or Church and get a demonstration there. I am always amazed at how interested people get in the fact that this test really works and they can literally see what is causing them stress and what they can do to effectively help them with this.

Anyway, to give you more details on what this is, the test is done with an E-Meter, which is a religious artifact (artifact just means it was man made) routinely used by Scientology counselors in locating areas of stress/travail. The person doing the test, just with the use of this E-Meter and not even needing to know what the persons life situations are can point out when a reaction occurs on the E-Meter. People who are tested most often want to watch the dial themselves during the test and can see the results for themselves.

During these tests there is obviously a wide variety of situations that come up. Family situations, financial problems, regret of wrong actions done in the past, etc. And then the person is shown in the book Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health that something can be done about it.

I talked with literally about 50 people that day and when I talked to them they were all very appreciative of the service we were offering. I personally got a lot of satisfaction in seeing all manner of people with a wide range of responses both before and after the test when I knew I could help them. People who said they didn't have any problems in their lives (but really they just weren't particularly conscious of them until doing the test) or were less open about it, to people who literally broke down in tears over situations in their lives and didn't know what to do about it. I knew that just having someone there to communicate their problems to and understood them was helpful but I also knew that when they read the information in Dianetics they would understand why they were getting themselves in to these situations, how they had gotten themselves in to these situations in the past and what they could do to be more in control of their lives in the future. And that they would be finding these things out for themselves, and realizing for themselves what they were going to do about it.

As a note, while I was out there, there were a small percentage of people that walked by (without knowing what we were doing) and thought we were just trying to make money selling a book. Most of the people like that were just these obnoxious types of people that will yell out and degrade anything they don't understand. Some of them that I could actually talk to I explained to them that you can get this book in a Library for free and that I didn't make any money from the sale of the book. And I invited them to try it out for themselves, when people saw I was sincere they were a little embarrassed and saw the sincerity in what we were doing.

Regardless, I had a lot of fun that day and made a bunch of friends. People I may or may not ever meet again but hopefully improved the lives of.
