I talked to someone on the street yesterday about Scientology
02.27.07 (12:26 pm)   [edit]
Yesterday, I was talking to a complete stranger about the fact that I was a Scientologist. He was sincerely interested and I started explaining some basic concepts of things I knew would help him if he understood their mechanics. I find myself interested in sharing things I know will help someone else. And I'm always amazed there are people who have heard about Scientology though don't really know very much about it or what they've heard is a weird interpretation from someone who really didn't understand it themselves. Usually I tell people that they should read a book like The Fundamentals of Thought by L. Ron Hubbard. This is not particularly to try to sell a book, and I frequently recommend just checking out a library book, it's because I know that there's a certain danger in explaining to people such fundamental data about life when you don't have the actual source material to hand. Obviously you have varying degrees of literacy and varying degrees of understanding and even people who are considered "literate" do not always totally understand what their reading and or be able to accurately relay this information to someone else. It opens the door to a certain degree of interpretation of false information being spread. I wouldn't even say I trust myself to get into a long explanation about what Scientology is without just having someone read a book written by L. Ron Hubbard.

Anyway, I suggested to this individual that he should really read a book or go to the Scientology web site to check it out for himself. At the same time I was in the position that I had some time on my hands (I was waiting for a friend) and I was curious to see his reaction if I went a little further and explained some basic concepts to him.

He told me he was a manager at a local restaurant and so I knew he most likely had to deal with people regularly. I asked him if he ever had trouble with co-workers getting along with each other or getting into arguments, etc. He said yes of course and so I explained something called the Third Part Law. Luckily it's one of those basic things which I've memorized and basically it goes like this: A THIRD PARTY MUST BE PRESENT AND UNKNOWN IN EVERY QUARREL FOR A CONFLICT TO EXIST. or FOR A QUARREL TO OCCUR, AN UNKNOWN THIRD PARTY MUST BE ACTIVE IN PRODUCING IT BETWEEN TWO POTENTIAL OPPONENTS. or WHILE IT IS COMMONLY BELIEVED TO TAKE TWO TO MAKE A FIGHT, A THIRD PARTY MUST EXIST AND MUST DEVELOP IT FOR ACTUAL CONFLICT TO OCCUR. I went on to explain how it seems like it's visibly two people or groups in conflict, however, there's an actual instigator of this conflict, behind the scenes and unnoticed and unsuspected who's actively promoting the conflict and probably has something to gain from the conflict. And there's an actual method of first detecting who the third party is and then easily resolving whatever conflict existed. And that this could apply to "personal" quarrels, group conflicts, warring governments, etc.

I also explained the basic concept of the ARC (pronounced A-R-C) triangle, and that there are three factors affinity, reality and communication which make up the corners of this triangle. And how these three points are intimately related. I gave him a theoretical example by asking him how his relationship was with people whom he didn't know very much about and or pass by him on the street or people in the supermarket, etc. And how this compares to if all of a sudden you both shared a common interest, maybe you both loved classic cars from the 50's or maybe you both were planting gardens in your front lawn. Anyway, without knowing anything else from the guy, this would be an increase in reality between you, which in turn would increase you affinity for the individual and level of communication, thus resulting in you understanding the individual better. And so the points of the ARC triangle work this way. As one point of the triangle increases so do the other two resulting in greater understanding.

Anyway, at this point our conversation was cut short as the friend I was waiting for arrived but I smiled and told him I had to go and he seemed genuinely appreciative that I took the time to share these basic rules about life. And I, at the same time, felt I somehow enhanced this persons awareness of his environment and hopefully he would get interested enough in actually reading a book himself and finding out more about Scientology.

China Treats Internet Addicts with Electroshock
02.22.07 (8:29 pm)   [edit]

Image: Internet addiction treatment

A 12-year-old boy receives electric shock treatment for his Internet addiction at the Beijing Military Region Central Hospital on June 17, 2005.

Leaders see "a grave social problem"

DAXING, China - Sun Jiting spends his days locked behind metal bars in this military-run installation, put there by his parents. The 17-year-old high school student is not allowed to communicate with friends back home, and his only companions are psychologists, nurses and other patients. Each morning at 6:30, he is jolted awake by a soldier in fatigues shouting, "This is for your own good!"

Sun's offense: Internet addiction.

Alarmed by a survey that found that nearly 14 percent of teens in China are vulnerable to becoming addicted to the Internet, the Chinese government has launched a nationwide campaign to stamp out what the Communist Youth League calls "a grave social problem" that threatens the nation.

Few countries have been as effective historically in fighting drug and alcohol addiction as China, which has been lauded for its successes, as well as criticized for harsh techniques.

Now the country is turning its attention to fighting another, supposed addiction -- one that has been blamed in the state-run media for a murder over virtual property earned in an online game, for a string of suicides and for the failure of youths in their studies.

The Chinese government in recent months has joined South Korea, Thailand and Vietnam in taking measures to try to limit the time teens spend online. It has passed regulations banning youths from Internet cafes and has implemented control programs that kick teens off networked games after five hours.

There's a global controversy over whether heavy Internet use should be defined as a mental disorder, with some psychologists, including a handful in the United States, arguing that it should be. Backers of the notion say the addiction can be crippling, leading people to neglect work, school and social lives.

But no country has gone quite as far as China in embracing the theory and mounting a public crusade against Internet addiction. To skeptics, the campaign dovetails a bit too nicely with China's broader effort to control what its citizens can see on the Internet. The Communist government runs a massive program that limits Web access, censors sites and seeks to control online political dissent. Internet companies like Google have come under heavy criticism abroad for going along with China's demands.

In the Internet-addiction campaign, the government is helping to fund eight in-patient rehabilitation clinics across the country.

Mild electric shocks

The clinic in Daxing, a suburb of Beijing, the capital, is the oldest and largest, with 60 patients on a normal day and as many as 280 during peak periods. Few of the patients, who range in age from 12 to 24, are here willingly. Most have been forced to come by their parents, who are paying upward of $1,300 a month -- about 10 times the average salary in China -- for the treatment.

Led by Tao Ran, a military researcher who built his career by treating heroin addicts, the clinic uses a tough-love approach that includes counseling, military discipline, drugs, hypnosis and mild electric shocks.

Tao said the clinic is based on the idea that there are many similarities between his current patients and those he had in the past.

In terms of withdrawal: "If you let someone go online and then he can't go online, you may see a physical reaction, just like someone coming off drugs." And in terms of resistance: "Today you go half an hour, and the next day you need 45 minutes. It's like starting with drinking one glass and then needing half a bottle to feel the same way."

Located on an army training base, the Internet-addiction clinic is distinct from the other buildings on campus because of the metal grates and padlocks on every door and the bars on every window.

The Antisocial Personality
02.22.07 (11:13 am)   [edit]
There are certain characteristics and mental attitudes which cause about 20 percent of a race to oppose violently any betterment activity or group.

Such people are known to have antisocial tendencies.

When the legal or political structure of a country becomes such as to favor such personalities in positions of trust, then all the civilizing organizations of the country become suppressed and a barbarism of criminality and economic duress ensues.

Crime and criminal acts are perpetrated by antisocial personalities. Inmates of institutions commonly trace their state back to contact with such personalities.

Thus, in the fields of government, police activities and mental health, to name a few, we see that it is important to be able to detect and isolate this personality type so as to protect society and individuals from the destructive consequences attendant upon letting such have free rein to injure others.

As they only comprise 20 percent of the population and as only 2 1/2 percent are truly dangerous, we see that with a very small amount of effort we could considerably better the state of society.

Well-known, even stellar, examples of such a personality are, of course, Napoleon and Hitler. Dillinger, Pretty Boy Floyd, Christie and other famous criminals were well-known examples of the antisocial personality. But with such a cast of characters in history we neglect the less stellar examples and do not perceive that such personalities exist in current life, very common, often undetected.

When we trace the cause of a failing business, we will inevitably discover somewhere in its ranks the antisocial personality hard at work.

In families which are breaking up, we commonly find one or the other of the persons involved to have such a personality.

Where life has become rough and is failing, a careful review of the area by a trained observer will detect one or more such personalities at work.

As there are 80 percent of us trying to get along and only 20 percent trying to prevent us, our lives would be much easier to live were we well informed as to the exact manifestations of such a personality. Thus, we could detect it and save ourselves much failure and heartbreak.

It is important then to examine and list the attributes of the antisocial personality. Influencing as it does the daily lives of so many, it well behooves decent people to become better informed on this subject.

Attributes

The antisocial personality has the following attributes:

1. He or she speaks only in very broad generalities. “They say...” “Everybody thinks...” “Everyone knows...” and such expressions are in continual use, particularly when imparting rumor. When asked, “Who is everybody...” it normally turns out to be one source and from this source the antisocial person has manufactured what he or she pretends is the whole opinion of the whole society.

This is natural to them since to them all society is a large hostile generality, against the antisocial in particular.

2. Such a person deals mainly in bad news, critical or hostile remarks, invalidation and general suppression.

“Gossip” or “bearer of evil tidings” or “rumormonger” once described such persons.

It is notable that there is no good news or complimentary remark passed on by such a person.

3. The antisocial personality alters, to worsen, communication when he or she relays a message or news. Good news is stopped and only bad news, often embellished, is passed along.

Such a person also pretends to pass on “bad news” which is in actual fact invented.

4. A characteristic, and one of the sad things about an antisocial personality, is that it does not respond to treatment or reform.

5. Surrounding such a personality we find cowed or ill associates or friends who, when not driven actually insane, are yet behaving in a crippled manner in life, failing, not succeeding.

Such people make trouble for others.

When treated or educated, the near associate of the antisocial personality has no stability of gain but promptly relapses or loses his advantages of knowledge, being under the suppressive influence of the other.

Physically treated, such associates commonly do not recover in the expected time but worsen and have poor convalescences.

It is quite useless to treat or help or train such persons so long as they remain under the influence of the antisocial connection.

The largest number of insane are insane because of such antisocial connections and do not recover easily for the same reason.

Unjustly we seldom see the antisocial personality actually in an institution. Only his “friends” and family are there.

6. The antisocial personality habitually selects the wrong target.

If a tire is flat from driving over nails, he or she curses a companion or a noncausative source of the trouble. If the radio next door is too loud, he or she kicks the cat.

If A is the obvious cause, the antisocial personality inevitably blames B or C or D.

7. The antisocial cannot finish a cycle of action. Any action goes through a sequence wherein the action is begun, is continued for as long as is required and is completed as planned. In Scientology, this is called a cycle of action.

The antisocial becomes surrounded with incomplete projects.

8. Many antisocial persons will freely confess to the most alarming crimes when forced to do so, but will have no faintest sense of responsibility for them.

Their actions have little or nothing to do with their own volition. Things “just happened.”

They have no sense of correct causation and particularly cannot feel any sense of remorse or shame therefore.

9. The antisocial personality supports only destructive groups and rages against and attacks any constructive or betterment group.

10. This type of personality approves only of destructive actions and fights against constructive or helpful actions or activities.

The artist in particular is often found as a magnet for persons with antisocial personalities who see in his art something which must be destroyed and covertly, “as a friend,” proceed to try.

11. Helping others is an activity which drives the antisocial personality nearly berserk. Activities, however, which destroy in the name of help are closely supported.

12. The antisocial personality has a bad sense of property and conceives that the idea that anyone owns anything is a pretense, made up to fool people. Nothing is ever really owned.

The Basic Reason

The basic reason the antisocial personality behaves as he or she does lies in a hidden terror of others.

To such a person every other being is an enemy, an enemy to be covertly or overtly destroyed.

The fixation is that survival itself depends on “keeping others down” or “keeping people ignorant.”

If anyone were to promise to make others stronger or brighter, the antisocial personality suffers the utmost agony of personal danger.

They reason that if they are in this much trouble with people around them weak or stupid, they would perish should anyone become strong or bright.

Such a person has no trust to a point of terror. This is usually masked and unrevealed.

When such a personality goes insane, the world is full of Martians or the FBI and each person met is really a Martian or FBI agent.

But the bulk of such people exhibit no outward signs of insanity. They appear quite rational. They can be very convincing.

However, the list given above consists of things which such a personality cannot detect in himself or herself. This is so true that if you thought you found yourself in one of the above, you most certainly are not antisocial. Self-criticism is a luxury the antisocial cannot afford. They must be right because they are in continual danger in their own estimation. If you proved one wrong, you might even send him or her into a severe illness.

Only the sane, well-balanced person tries to correct his conduct.

Man with bad pictures around him
The antisocial personality has a hidden terror of others.

Man giving candy to kids
All the other people are enemies to be covertly or overtly destroyed.

Man telling girl at piano 'Don't feel too bad. Not everyone is born with talent.'
One sign of an antisocial personality is that he deals mainly in critical or hostile remarks, invalidation and general suppression.

Relief

If you were to weed out of your past by proper search and discovery those antisocial persons you have known and if you then disconnected, you might experience great relief.

Similarly, if society were to recognize this personality type as a sick being as they now isolate people with smallpox, both social and economic recoveries could occur.

Things are not likely to get much better so long as 20 percent of the population is permitted to dominate and injure the lives and enterprise of the remaining 80 percent.

As majority rule is the political manner of the day, so should majority sanity express itself in our daily lives without the interference and destruction of the socially unwell.

The pity of it is, they will not permit themselves to be helped and would not respond to treatment if help were attempted.

An understanding and ability to recognize such personalities could bring a major change in society and our lives.

The antisocial personality has a hidden terror of others. All other people are enemies to be covertly or overtly destroyed. One sign of an antisocial personality is that he deals mainly in critical or hostile remarks, invalidation and general suppression.

What is Dianetics?
02.22.07 (10:05 am)   [edit]
Dianetics spiritual healing technology can help alleviate such ailments as unwanted sensations and emotions, irrational fears and psychosomatic illnesses (illness caused or aggravated by mental stress). The word Dianetics comes from the Greek words dia, meaning through and nous, soul. The full and proper definition of Dianetics is what the soul is doing to the body through the mind.

Before L. Ron Hubbard published the fundamentals of Dianetics in 1950, prevailing scientific thought held that man’s mind was his brain, nothing more than a collection of cells and neurons. IQ was considered unimprovable and personality fixed.

Dianetics technology changed all that. Its effectiveness, astonishing in many cases, has been documented in a multitude of case histories over nearly half a century of application.

Dianetics uncovers the source of unwanted sensations and emotions, accidents, injuries and psychosomatic illnesses, and sets forth effective handlings for these conditions. Further research into the spiritual aspects of Dianetics led to the discovery of Scientology.

Scientology, on the other hand, is the study and handling of the spirit in relationship to itself, to universes and to other life. Through the practice of Scientology one can increase his spiritual awareness and ability and realize his own immortality.

Baton Rouge man finds Scientology enhances his Christianity
02.20.07 (11:15 pm)   [edit]
Craig Gehring is nearly everything one might expect a Scientologist to be: young, enthusiastic and almost famous.

He is also one thing unexpected: a professing Christian.

Describing him as famous is likely going too far, but the 20-year-old does have his own weekday radio show on a Baton Rouge gospel station, and in 2003 he was profiled in The Advocate after getting a rare perfect score on the ACT.

Instead of turning that score into a successful college career, he pursued immediate opportunities to help others through the Church of Scientology. (full story> )

Church of Scientology International Receives LA Business Journal's Real Estate Award
02.13.07 (10:12 pm)   [edit]

The Church of Scientology International is a 2007 recipient of the Los Angeles Business Journal's Real Estate Award . Announced in the February 12th issue of the LA Business Journal, the theme of this year's awards is "adaptive reuse" - a very popular trend in architecture that is efficient and environmentally responsible in which old or historic buildings are converted for new uses while retaining their classic features. All twelve honorees were chosen for their contributions in this field.

With 1.2 million square feet of renovated and restored space in 25 buildings in the greater LA area alone, the Church of Scientology International and local Scientology Churches are considered pioneers and leaders in the restoration of vintage properties.

Accepting the award on behalf of the Church of Scientology International, and the tens of thousands of Scientologists living and working in Los Angeles who have contributed to these activities, was Church spokesperson, Bob Adams. "We take great pride in this award," said Adams. "So much care goes into restoring our buildings. We work hard to maintain their original character and charm while making them fully functional for the needs of our parishioners and staff."

What Does a Scientology Auditor Do and What is Auditing?
02.12.07 (11:18 am)   [edit]
Auditing is the term given to the spiritual counseling which is the central practice of Dianetics and Scientology. It is delivered by an auditor (from the Latin word audire, meaning to listen)—a person trained and expert in the exact techniques of Dianetics and Scientology.

The goal of auditing is to restore individual ability. It is a precise, thoroughly codified activity with precise procedures.

An auditor uses exact sets of questions asked to help a person find out things about himself and improve his condition. An unlimited number of questions could, of course, be asked—which might or might not help a person. The accomplishment in Dianetics and Scientology is that L. Ron Hubbard isolated the precise questions and directions to invariably improve a person’s ability and remove the impediments to his or her spiritual growth.

An auditor does not engage in some vague form of mental exploration, nor does an auditor offer solutions, advice or evaluation. One of the fundamental principles of the Scientology religion is that an individual can improve his conditions only if he is allowed to find his own answers to life’s problems. Scientology auditors help individuals to accomplish this goal by guiding them to examine their existence through a carefully structured series of steps that Mr. Hubbard developed. By following this gradient process, individuals can improve their ability to face what they are and where they are.

Celebrities Speak on Scientology
02.09.07 (3:27 pm)   [edit]

[image]Isaac Hayes

Scientology is the gateway to eternity. It is the path to happiness and total spiritual freedom. Until one has experienced the technology of Scientology it’s unlikely that one will ever experience these wonderful discoveries. I know because it has worked for me. The more time and effort I invest, the more I receive. I highly recommend it.

Isaac Hayes
Composer,
Musician & Actor

[image]John Travolta

In January of 1975 I was working on my first film in Durango, Mexico. There I met an actress who gave me the book Dianetics. During the five weeks we were filming she gave me some auditing sessions and applied some basic principles. That was when I became involved in Dianetics – because it worked.

When I returned to the United States I began Scientology training and auditing. My career immediately took off and I landed a leading role on the TV show “Welcome Back Kotter” and had a string of successful films. I have been a successful actor for more than twenty years and Scientology has played a major role in that success.

I have a wonderful child and a great marriage because I apply L. Ron Hubbard’s technology to this area of my life.

As a Scientologist, I have the technology to handle life’s problems and I have used this to help others in life as well.

I would say that Scientology put me into the big time.

The main thing that has really impressed me about Scientology is that there is the most brilliant tech for anything and everything in your life. I’ve become a more powerful individual with increased abilities. I never even conceived that I could experience these kinds of gains prior to Scientology.

There is a way to handle every part of life with Scientology, and a way to exist that is far beyond any dream that you could ever dream. All of my dreams keep becoming realities and that’s very exciting!

Through Scientology, things happen a lot quicker. What used to take weeks or months sometimes happens in days or even minutes!

Life is at my fingertips and with Scientology I’ve found I can have or be whatever I want.

Overcoming the Ups and Downs in Life
02.05.07 (11:19 am)   [edit]

Why are some people ill more often than others? Why are some accident-prone? And is there a reason others live their lives on an emotional seesaw, doing well one day and badly the next?

There is an explanation, and it has nothing to do with the gods, fate or the position of the stars. In fact, the actual reason behind these phenomena-and their resolution-has been explained in Scientology. L. Ron Hubbard was able to see through the complexities of human behavior and discover the underlying factors which explain the phenomenon of suppression in people-for it is suppression by others that causes these seemingly haphazard events.

In the excerpts from his writings , you will find out how to recognize people who wish you ill and those who should be your friends. You’ll discover why some people do poorly in life and how you can help them regain their well-being. You’ll learn about the mechanics behind this destructive yet commonplace situation and ways to counteract it. It is data that could actually change your life tangibly and instantly, just as it has changed the lives of others. (learn more> )
